Hassan

Located 187kms from Bangalore, Hassan rests in the Malnad and Maidan districts of Karnataka. The name of this city has been taken from its presiding deity Goddess Hassanamba. It is often termed as the architecture capital of Karnataka due to various ancient structures and monuments dotted here.

Hoysala Temples are twin temples - Nageshwara and Channakeshava. These temples, built at edge of the Mosale village, flaunt a typical Hoysala style of architecture. The temples make many jaws drop with their beautifully designed architecture and ancient scriptures. Shri Ranganatha temple on the Mavinakerre hill also looks spectacular with its contemporary architecture. A drive to this temple is itself a treat owing to the beautiful vistas sprawling all around. Also, do not miss out the Ramanathpur Temples situated 50km from Hassan. Lined on the banks of the river Cauvery, these temples are often termed as Dakshina Kailasa which means the 'Kashi of the South'.

Shettyhalli submerged church of the city also looks impressive with its ancient gothic architecture. Its location along the banks of the River Hemavathi adds to its popularity and makes it one of the most visited places in Hassan.

Gorur dam of Hassan also astonishes the travellers with its grand built. It forms the Hemavathi reservoir which was raised in the 1900s. One requires permission from the authorities to reach the top of the dam.
