A peaceful village bordering the coastlines of the Arabian Sea, Kovalam is all about its azure beaches with low tidal waves. The Lighthouse Beach of the city seems like a dream with perfect hues of azure and crimson mingling together at the horizon. It got its name due to the 30 m tall lighthouse raised on the Kurumkal Hill at the beach. There is an observation deck which can be accessed by taking 140 steps to enjoy bird’s eye views. There are various hotels and restaurants along the coastline where one can relax with some delectable cocktail.

Another pristine beach of the city is the Hawah Beach. Though it remains a little crowded, its beauty is no less than that of the Lighthouse Beach. A sunset at the Hawah Beach is miraculous and it is a great spot to enjoy sunbathing. 

The third must visit beach of Kovalam is the Samudra Beach which is also the calmest of all. It is ideal for newlyweds seeking a serene place to weave some beautiful memories together. Enjoy leisurely strolls, gaze at the calming waves and cherish the most beautiful sunset and sunrises - Samudra Beach promises it all.

Apart from beaches, Karamana River of Kovalam has earned great popularity due to its unbelievable vistas.  The river is great for a boat ride that takes you through coconut, tapioca, pepper plantations and emerald paddy fields.  Vellayani Lake, a large freshwater body, must also be visited due to the range of flora and fauna sprawling here. People flock here to relish moonlit nights when the beauty of this crystal clear lake reaches zenith.

Those looking for an ideal place to enjoy a picnic must explore the Aruvikkara Dam located on the banks of Karamana River. This beautiful dam has numerous fish which are often fed by the visitors as they come very close to the surface.
